Irish Novels 1890-1940: New Bearings in Culture and Fiction
This book is a comprehensive, original treatment of popular and neglected Irish fiction, which re-charts the literary landscape, particularly for women’s and genre fiction, and reconfigures perspectives on a crucial period in Irish history. The 510-page survey includes a lengthy Introduction, fourteen chapters, a postscript of over forty pages and an appendix on James Joyce and popular fiction. The book was over five years in the making and research for it was conducted in study visits to the special collections of the Universities of British Columbia, Ulster, Toronto, the National University of Ireland/Galway, Trinity College Dublin, and the British Library.
