English abstract

This research examines the groups who fought for women’s social and political rights in Madrid from 1909 to 1931 through a multi-layered study which focuses on their leaders, rank-and-file-members and collective actions. It shows how, acting as pressure groups, these women exercised citizenship rights before being considered full citizens by the republican regime in 1931. In addition, by focusing on what has been called 'stated intentions', that is the political project which drove collective action, this research successes in explaining why groups who fought for common demands did not collaborate with each other.
