Intention-oriented programming support for runtime adaptive autonomic cloud-based applications
<7> The originality of this paper is concerned with engendering dependability in highly distributed computing systems by runtime, rather than design time, adaptation. Using the described Provision-Assurance-Auditing process, evolving user requirements can be handled by the system autonomically. The results, described in the paper, show that, in comparison with a Microsoft standard, there is a decrease in performance with the introduction of this adaptation. This, however, is shown to be acceptable as the difference in performance becomes negligible over the lifetime of the system, which is now capable of runtime adaptation. This approach is being applied in emerging cloud/green-computing scenarios.
