Additional information

In this study, a method of generating virtual finite element samples of trabecular bone is developed. It is shown that these computationally generated samples ‘look’ and behave like bone. The methodology thus provides a valuable tool in the study of the mechanical behaviour of trabecular bone and supports its role in micro-architecture. The original proposal for this study was awarded the Robertson medal, with the associated PhD studentship award, from the Carnegie Trust (admin@carnegie-trust.org).
