Additional information

Hard chrome is to be replaced due to EU REACH environmental legislation providing drive for an electrodeposited replacement. Weston and co-workers have discovered a nano-crystalline coating (patented) with high as-deposited hardness and superior wear and corrosion resistance. Cobalt tungsten electroplating bath construction was conducted in association with Goodrich Actuation Systems (now Aero Engine Controls, Terry.Hirst@aeroenginecontrols.com). The methodology described in the paper has led to:- one patent granted; one patent application in progress; an EPSRC grant submission; a new method for codeposition of nanoparticles with electrodeposited coatings; a continued collaboration with AEC; and a new collaboration with MAHLE Ltd, (ian.laing@gb.mahle.com).
