Additional information

Here we report on a 5-way EU Future and Emerging Technologies project iCHEM (€3M) describing a framework and component technologies for a new branch of ICT – infochemical communication - that uses precisely-controlled chemical ratios to encode multiple channels of information through molecules. It provides an important alternative paradigm to ubiquitous electron-based communication, using the language of chemistry. It was selected by the EU amongst stiff competition from other projects to be showcased at the FET Futures conference 2011. The novel multidisciplinary approach taken in this project offers the first technological vision for multi-molecular communication in EM hostile environments.
