Topology optimization of truss-like continua with different material properties in tension and compression
First publication of method to successfully optimize structure with different material behaviour in tensile and compressive regions. Published in the prestigious journal of the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO). Follow on work has led to design of steel reinforcement for concrete structures. Continued international collaboration with leading Spanish optimization group at Cartagena University. Instrumental to new EPSRC project (EP/K020463/1) on A Biomimetic, Self-Tuning, Fully Adaptable Smart Lower Limb Prosthetics with Energy Recover (£618,676) as it allows to determine the position of the artificial ligaments, tendons, muscles and supporting structure when topologically designing the prosthesis.
