Additional information

A highly original analysis, based on acceleration of burning rate by self-induced turbulence, was proposed for determining whether a deflagration to detonation transition, DDT, might occur for flame propagation along a duct. Presented in the premier journal on combustion (high IP). It links flame velocities to shock wave equations in a numerical analysis. Co-financed by EPSRC gr/s70203/01, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery (£16 000) and Shell Global Solutions (roger.cracknell@shell.com) (£11 500). Lotus Engineering and Jaguar Cars (jturner1@jaguarlandrover.com) also contributed to technical discussions. The Research Fellow, Dr Liu, is now employed at Siemens, ensuring transfer of knowledge and expertise.
