It includes an Introduction (30k words); explanatory commentary (110k words); detailed bibliography; index; appendices containing related Swiftian writings, and contextual materials by other writers; textual introduction setting out the text-editorial principles and methodology followed; formal bibliographical descriptions of the original texts; historical collations, and lists of emendations to the copy text.

The edition was prepared over the years 2002-2009; it involved two and a half years of full-time work.
