<26> We introduce a novel approach to author life-like skin appearance in computer graphics, by departing from painting skin colours to controlling physiological chromophore concentration. This creates a new workflow for special effects. Parts of our technology were used by Weta Digital for the film "Avatar". The Cosmetics industry (Procter&Gamble) hired Dr Weyrich as a consultant to reimplement system for them. Outputs led Procter&Gamble to fund four-year studentship for follow-up research. A rendering from this paper was selected as cover image of the SIGGRAPH Asia 2008 proceedings.
