Developing IDEAS: supporting children with autism within a participatory design team
<20>This paper outlines a new method of involving autistic children in participatory design. It is original in providing specific structures to support special needs populations. IDEAS forms part of the framework of participatory design methods by Frauenberger et al (2013), and part of the FACIT PD framework developed by Walsh et al (2103). The approach has been used extensively within a funded EPSRC project on developing mathematics tutors for the autistic population. Parts of it have been adopted by teachers in special schools. CHI is ranked in the top 10 Computer Science conferences by Microsoft Academic Search.
