This paper describes a novel data mining technique to support decision-making for high value civil infrastructure, e.g. long-term bridge management. The approach combined advanced computing methods (clustering) with traditional behaviour models (finite elements) for solving the inverse engineering problem of structural system identification. It received the best paper award from ASCE's journal of computing in civil engineering (http://www.asce.org/PPLContent.aspx?id=2147484505).
