Homogenous silver-doped nanocomposite glass
This paper demonstrates a three-step dry technique for the fabrication of metal-glass nanocomposites (glass with embedded metallic nanoparticles). We addressed a long-standing engineering problem in this field, namely fabrication of large area, homogenous (island-free) nanocomposites in air with uniform thickness of the nanoparticle containing layer – important for applications in optoelectronics (light/plasmon wave technologies). This work was funded by Professor Abdolvand’s EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship (~£850k - Aug. 2010/Aug. 2015 - EP/I004173/1). We currently have the capability to fabricate these tailored nanocomposites in-house. Professor Abdolvand fully and closely supervised the work, is the corresponding author and wrote the paper.
