Spatially optimized gene transfection by laser-induced breakdown of optically trapped nanoparticles
The paper describes a means to optimise transfection via controlled permeabilsation of local cell membranes. This arises due to a cavitation effect that is nucleated by ablating a nanoparticle with laser irradiation. The technique may have exploitation potential for lab based cell transfection of specific individual cells, and especially on lines that are traditionally difficult to transfect. My specific role was to advise on the initial experimental design of the study, to analyse the cavitation data arising, and to write the end version of the paper using the primary author's first draft as a basis.
