This is the primary output of an AHRC funded project, Safeguarding heritage at risk: disaster management in UK archives, libraries and museums, March 2005- October 2006, and follow-on research. Knowles worked on the project for 9 months, Smith for its duration as researcher. Matthews, PI, continued on his own to pursue the research, collecting data in 2007 and 2008 as major flooding struck areas of England. He added data to the large amount collected nationally and internationally during the project. Over 2008, Matthews, alone, integrated the AHRC project data with that collected subsequently and wrote and edited the book.
