Optimising splicing parameters for splice aesthetics for a continuous filament synthetic yarn
The industrial research resulted in a Queen’s Award for Innovation. The citation read “The small company, GTW Developments Group Ltd, wins an Innovation Award for the design and manufacture of machines capable of creating spliced joints in carbon and glass fibres. After considerable research, the company boasts the widest range of splicing capability in the world. Compared with alternatives of glued joints or knots, there are many benefits of splicing composite materials, which are mostly of very high value and associated with stringent production standards. Thus, the commercially successful innovations are leading to financial saving in markets around the world.”
