Life cycle assessment of biogas infrastructure options on a regional scale
The study’s original data, allocation and displacement methodologies have informed a number of other Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) studies in China, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands on the implementation of bioenergy/waste systems. The sensitivity analysis related to fugitive methane emissions has direct relevance to the draft EU Directive ‘Sustainability Criteria for Solid and Gaseous Biomass Used in Electricity and/or Heating and Cooling and Biomethane Injection into the Natural Gas Network’. Results from this study were utilised by the Welsh Government to support the policy arguments for the procurement of waste treatment infrastructure.
