Low-Profile Directive Millimeter-Wave Antennas Using Free-Formed Three-Dimensional (3-D) Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures
Presents electromagnetic contribution and manufacturing techniques potential in producing low cost low profile metamaterial antennas for millimetrewave communications and security imaging applications. Initially funded by Leverhulme grant (2005-8, Parini PI) work brought together antenna and material specialists at QMUL (plus UCL with Evans & Lu move in 2007) to develop a new 3D manufacturing technique for woodpile metamaterials. PhD student Lee graduated in 2009 and now employed at Rutherford Appleton Labs. Work a significant contributor to 2011 award of £4.5m 5-year EPSRC Programme grant 'QUEST' with QM (Y.Hao) leading, (CoI Parini) and consortia of Exeter (Physics), Oxford (Materials).
