<33>Originality:

This interdisciplinary research demonstrated for the first time that NMR can be used to implement and connect classical logic gates, by implementing a half-adder circuit in chloroform.

Significance:

This initiated a new programme of work into architectures that exploit the combination of multiple unconventional and conventional substrates, leading to further publications, a Royal Society funded interdisciplinary conference at Chicheley Hall, and a new multi-site research proposal.

Rigour:

The design was tested in simulation, then verified experimentally on a Bruker Avance NMR spectrometer. Full experimental materials and methods are laid out in appendix B, to ensure scientific reproducibility.
