New Works: Convergent Photography Notes From the Playground
In response to my Cameron Museum & Galleries 2011 exhibition I was given the opportunity, by The Wall Gallery, to exhibit 8 large-scale (2 x 2.3 metre) photographs produced using Convergent Photography new media photomontage techniques.
The underpinning research involved projecting and recording sonically activated patterns on fabrics worn by still and moving models and a range of props that collectively created mise-en-scenes that drew on historical narratives. I was particularly interested in capturing the distortions and layers associated with live performance, in this instance caused by the rapidly moving projected iterations triggered by the visuosonic* projections.
* visuosonic refers to the KikiT VisuoSonic research group that I am part of. Our research involves creating visuals that are activated in real-time by sonic triggers. Convergent Photography is one of the ways in which my research branches of from the work of this group.
During the exhibition I gave a lecture/performance to students and visitors outlining the research processes that underpinned the exhibition.
