Additional information

<05> Network lifetime is the most important metric to evaluate the performance of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Its exact definition, however, is often not specified in published works. This paper surveys existing definitions and contributes a novel definition, stated in mathematical terms, that encompasses existing definitions, incorporates new aspects, and can be adapted to application scenarios through a set of parameters. Published in the leading WSN journal, the paper has been widely cited (>240 in Google Scholar) and consistently ranks among the journal’s top 10 most downloaded papers, thus demonstrating its impact in the WSN community. Both authors contributed equally.
