Additional information

This exhibition, commissioned as part of the London 2012 Festival, saw nine pairs of leading British fashion designers and visual artists collaborate on a series of works. Britain Creates acknowledged and promoted the longstanding relationship between fashion and art, and celebrated London’s role as a creative capital in the year of hosting the Olympics. The designer/artist pairs, in this instance Hussein Chalayan in collaboration with Turk, were given a completely open brief to see what would emerge from the dialogue between their respective disciplines.

Chalayan and Turk made a record called Four Minute Mile, which begins with the sound of running feet and breathing and then features Turk talking about art whilst Chalayan hums and chants. The record was produced by the Vinyl Factory, an independent British company that aims to bring together art and music by creating limited edition handmade vinyl records with corresponding artwork.

The nine artist/designer dialogues culminated in an exhibition at the V&A, and a specially created window display at Selfridges on Oxford Street, and a catalogue, that included an audio work by Turk and Chalayan: ISBN 978-1-86154-327-1
