This output investigates different areas of the grammar of Mauritian Creole, and required the collection, analysis and checking of a large body of data over twenty years of research. This involved several field trips to Mauritius, and formed the basis of several conference presentations. Given the very small number of theoretical studies of creole languages, the book’s analysis of syntax entailed the generation of new theses with implications concerning current cartographic and minimalist thinking on the structure and derivation of phrases and clauses. Research for the book entailed extensive work in constructing a database for future studies of creole syntax.
