Additional information

A clustering technique for interval uncertainty quantification is described that is able to cope with very rough specifications, such as in the early stages of a design. Prior to journal publication, the paper was awarded the CADLM prize in 2007 for ‘Intelligent Optimal Design’ at the International Workshop on Advanced Design Optimization of Materials Structures and Mechanical Systems, Xi’an, China, 17-20 December 2007 (Evidence file: Beer2-1). The research is presently being exploited for crash worthiness in car design by Dynamore GmbH (contact: Heiner Müllerschön <hm@dynamore.de>; Evidence file: Beer2-2).
