Additional information

This is the first attempt to model thermal stress in auxetic composite materials. This led to the significant finding that the thermal shock in continuum isotropic materials is minimised at negative thermodynamic limits of Poisson’s Ratio. The work demonstrates advantages of auxetics in axisymmetric components under threat of thermal shock loading such as those in nuclear plant, and contributes to supporting the two research projects funded by Sellafield Ltd listed with Output 3.
