Additional information

The French Colonial Mind' is a two-volume collection of twenty-seven essays, the result of an international conference organized by Exeter's Centre for War, State and Society. I organized the conference and selected the chapters for both volumes, in each of which I wrote an introductory essay reflecting on the issues of attitude formation and the origins of colonialist mentality that the books explore. The second volume only is submitted as part of my return because it also includes an additional original essay in which I discuss the political economy of dissent in colonial Algeria.
