Double-weighted statement

This 140,000-word monograph is the product of more than ten years' research, and adopts a range of approaches (literary, intellectual, social, religious) incorporating insights from a range of disciplines, as is typical of witchcraft research. Although it addresses a region and then tackles a series of specific case-studies within this region, each case-study has involved very detailed reconstruction of the 'micro-history' of that episode, requiring intense archival and textual research to identify the full range of factors involved: this research could have supported a book-length study on each episode.
