Additional information

The paper, supported by EPSRC, introduces the world first analytical and experimental confirmation of Earth surface medium resolution (~10 square metres) imaging by means of a passive microwave sensor. This sensor exploits navigation satellite signal emissions, while being stationary on the Earth. It was demonstrated that the proposed system structure enables synthetic aperture radar processing, yielding high angular resolutions with small physical antenna sizes. Potentially the complexity/cost of this sensor is of an ordinary GPS receiver, and a number of brand new remote sensing systems could be developed based on the publication e.g. change detector, situational awareness sensors, surface monitoring.
