Additional information

This paper presents the results of research into the theoretical principles of railway track circuit fault diagnosis. This is the first work in this area and has been used by many others internationally. The fundamental work presented here formed: (i) part of a technology demonstrator which preceded Network Rail’s national roll-out of track circuit monitoring, and (ii) the basis for work which specified a multi-million investment by London Underground. The results from this paper formed part of a keynote presentation at the 2009 International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes.
