There are a wide range of potential applications from this work. One we have pursued is the design and manufacture of an improved prosthetic heart valve, highlighted by the British Heart Foundation in an Observer feature (The New Review 13/11/11 p4) . £20k EPSRC Pathways to Impact Award. In collaboration with Papworth Hospital we have constructed a prototype valve which we are now testing and improving under a £250k BHF grant - implantation into pigs is scheduled for March 2014.
