Additional information

Voltage response of mechanical / vibration stimulus on flexible polymer PVDF piezoelectric films was evaluated for the first time in vacuum and at various temperatures. Work was based on 3 International Patents by Siores and paper was co-authored with his PhD student and 2 Postdocs. Influence of applied vacuum on voltage generated PVDF films was very significant and temperature variations affected the range of energy output generated. Implications for design and performance of polymer piezoelectric systems for energy harvesting in space and low pressure and temperature environments. Won the UK Energy Innovation Award and helped assign the technology to FibrLec (www.fibrlec.com) for commercialisation.
