Additional information

Cited ~1300 times, this was the first demonstration of the potential for mass production of defect free, un-oxidised graphene using a non-covalent solution phase method. The key concept of graphene exfoliation by matching the surface energy of a solvent to that of graphene was identified. This created an alternative to the large-scale growth methods that dominated scientific thinking and spawned significant industrial and European funded research. This author has won four international grants based on this research, and support from Intelligent Energy (ref: Dr. Paul Adcock, Director of Research), who are interested in increasing the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells.
