Double-weighted statement

A large monograph, resulting from wide-ranging original primary research conducted in Asia and Great Britain. None of its content had appeared in any other published form at the time of publication; a short 3,000-word article linked to some of the research has subsequently appeared, but not submitted for REF. It has been shortlisted for the 2012 Orwell Prize, longlisted for the 2012 Cundill Prize in History, has won one major prize (the Jan Michalski Prize 2012) and has been reviewed by senior scholars as an important new contribution to the field of modern China's historical relations with the West.
