Van het klimaatfront geen nieuws
Psychoanalysis shows the resistance to both spreading like hearing news about climate change. It does this through the rhetoric and psychodynamics of groups to investigate. "Viewers are accustomed to stories and reports of unrest in the world, but they are also used to the institutionalized forms of authority, competence, teamwork and composure that transcend the news as such and thus ensure a certain manageability." Translation of article by Leo Reijnen.
This article assesses past and present cultural representation and mainstream news coverage of global warming. It compares and contrasts very recent accounts of damage caused by human actions to the natural world, with earlier historical commentaries on, and futurological warnings about, environmental and social devastation. Finally, it investigates a number of Victorian accounts of public myopia in the face of impending calamities, and considers whether psychoanalytic accounts of the 'defences', especially ‘the manic defence against depressive anxiety’ are relevant to understanding what is commonly now referred to as 'climate change denial'.
