Additional information

Huang has pioneered superconducting spiral resonator filters in collaboration with Sardinia Radio Telescope, and Jodrell Bank. The major advantage is that the conflicting requirements of compact devices and low loss are simultaneously possible. The new designs presented have not previously been seen even in standard copper devices at these frequencies. Here, the spirals are applied uniquely to dual band filters containing band-stop notches. New design equations are formulated, and a very successful narrow 0.1% notch is achieved. New spiral shapes, including some with a reversal of winding direction, were created to enable the required wide range of coupling coefficients to be implemented.
