Additional information

<16> A novel measure of the navigation potential of a web page as a starting point for a user surfing the web is proposed. It is shown how to compute and approximate this measure, assuming that the utility of browsing a page diminishes with its distance from the starting point. Traditionally search engines have neglected assisting users in their navigation within web sites. However, as search engines are looking into augmenting their results with navigational assistance, the potential gain could prove to be useful. This paper is part of longstanding research by the authors into the web navigation problem.
