Additional information

This paper is one of the first to combine expertise in high dynamic range imaging (HDR) with virtual archaeology. This enables a significantly enhanced level of realism in reconstructions. An article on this research appeared in NewScientist1 in August 2009 under the title: “Shedding old light on archaeological artefacts”. The paper also clearly showed the need for an increased colour gamut to show the full effects of authentic lighting reconstructions. Current commercial HDR displays now incorporate such a wider colour gamut. The images created are available at the site to assist in the interpretation of the ruins for visitors.
