A simple model of leakage induced by deep pumping and its application to pollution beneath a city in Thailand
Significance of output:
As part of a long series of pollution studies, an analytical model was developed that is potentially applicable to the hydrogeological situation beneath many cities particularly across S and SE Asia. With just a single calibration parameter, this model successfully predicted the spatial trend of pollution across a city in Thailand. It provided unusually precise guidance for planners including: “The problem of pollution due to induced leakage may not become apparent for decades…” and “The wells most likely to show signs of pollution are those near the centre of a city and these wells should be a priority for monitoring.”
