Additional information

This study was commissioned by the Legal Services Commission (LSC). It combined qualitative telephone interviews with two surveys of law firms that offered LSC funded training contracts and trainees that were trained through the scheme. It resulted in a number of recommendations that formed the basis of a policy change as regards legal aid funded training contracts. It also provided new understanding about the motivations of trainee solicitors, law firm recruitment processes and the way in which legal aid work is conceptualised by law students, trainees and the LSC.
