Capacitor Voltage-Balancing Techniques for a Multi-Pulse Rectifier with Active injection
This paper explains for the first time how second order effects within a certain type of high performance rectifier can lead to unbalanced operation and distortion of the input currents. Correction techniques are proposed and demonstrated, reducing the total harmonic distortion of the input current from 4.8% to 2.4%. The simple and robust nature of the rectifier combined with its high harmonic performance make it a candidate for aerospace systems. The work was sponsored by Goodrich and is now being taken forward by Rolls-Royce for use in new forms of inverters for aerospace systems (contact details available).
