This book emerged from my doctoral thesis completed in 2009 and was the product of four years of research. It is the first monograph ever to focus on the inter-relationship between transitional justice and rule of law reconstruction in post-conflict states. It provides a provocative reassessment of the various tangled relationships between the two fields, exploring the blind-spots, contradictions and opportunities for synergies between them that the existing literature has ignored or downplayed. The analytical framework and inter-disciplinary approach adopted incorporated wide-ranging study beyond the legal discipline, drawing extensively on research in the fields of peacebuilding, anthropology and politics.
