Additional information

This work established a new FE modelling approach for cutting force prediction in the micro milling process. The ability to accurately predict cutting forces allows industrial end users to select appropriate machining parameters to avoid excessive tool wear and catastrophic breakage (micro milling cutting tools are costly and tool breakage also risks workpiece damage). The project was carried out in collaboration with a micro-milling machine tool maker and end-user (KERN Microtechnik) and KERN UK agent and cutting tool supplier Rainford Precision (arthur.turner@rainfordprecision.com).
