Additional information

Semiconductor ring lasers are attractive on-chip light sources for optical communications. Paper provides defining theory for non-linear dynamics in semiconductor ring lasers and is culmination of 6-years experimental and theoretical research. It unifies various opinions about observed non-linear behaviour of semiconductor ring lasers under theoretical framework based on first-principles. Framework has been used by collaborators to explain experimental findings and optimise their devices [e.g. contact: Dr. Sorel, University of Glasgow; Prof. Danckaert, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium; Prof. Balle, Universitat de les Illes Balears, Spain]. Paper is in top 3% of most-cited in journal within REF period (Web of Science, 16/7/2013).
