Additional information

This paper reports work from an EPSRC funded feasibility study on X-ray propagation in carbon nanotubes. At X-ray frequencies the required angle of incidence relative to the axis of the nanotube is a few milliradians, creating significant challenges for the experimental confirmation of mode formation. This is the first theoretical report to describe how this constraint can be successfully alleviated through the exploitation of Bragg reflection in multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Future applications of this technology lie in nanoscale lithography and photoelectron spectroscopy with a high spatial resolution.
