Additional information

The research in this paper builds on the work reported in 2010 [Reeks2] to investigate in detail the statistics of particle compressibility (as a measure of segregation) through direct numerical simulation of isotropic turbulence and make an important connection with the formation of caustics, the occurrence of singularities in the particle concentration and random uncorrelated motion. In particular the conditions at which the rate of production of singularities is maximum (an important mechanism in droplet coalescence) are defined for the first time.
