A robotic workstation for stroke rehabilitation of the upper extremity using FES
Significance of output:
This paper is the first to detail an apparatus for iterative learning control (ILC) to be applied in neuromuscular stimulation of the upper limb. The apparatus was used in experiments and demonstrated that ILC can be applied successfully with neuromuscular stimulation to allow for the restoration of function in disabled people. The mean RMS tracking error is less than 10mm when the hand moves in path over a surface of 450mm x 200mm. This work featured in a Department of Health report presented to parliament 2007-08 and contributed to the subsequent award of EPRSC grant (EP/I01909X/1; £464,231).
