Double-weighted statement

The Foundations of Gentry Life is a 134,591 word monograph, which explains the adaptability and capacity for survival of the gentry as a ruling class. Although the core archival material was transcribed from Magdalen College archive during a year's research leave, a longer period of research was required to produce the work for 2 reasons: i) the need to supplement this material from scattered evidence extant elsewhere to reinforce the evidential base and cover lacunae, and ii) the need to analyse this and re-conceptualise the many dimensions to gentry life.
