A geometric approach to the design of remotely located
vibration control systems
Significance of output:
The work contained within the paper was initiated following a classified series of trials on a Canadian Naval vessel aimed at suppressing propeller vibration. These trials highlighted a little known vibration suppression problem associated with the global effect of a locally sited active control system. This is one of a series of papers that develop a unique design and analysis methodology that provides a rigorous solution to the problem. The work and associated demonstration system that resulted was a major contributor to the establishment of the BAE Systems funded Centre for Research in Active Control, initially at the University of Sheffield and now located within the ISVR at the University of Southampton.
