Additional information

This research provided incubation for developing research proposal to enhance the surface properties concerning friction and wear with a focus on water lubricated systems, hence renewable technologies applications. A proposal to combine water lubrication with nano-coatings was developed. The combination of both attracted a major industrial partner Schaeffler (Dr V Bakolas Tel. +49 9721 91-2722) to fund (£24k plus in-kind £41k), research into electroplated nano-coatings for tribological systems with focus on water lubrication. This research has potential to bring significant academic and commercial benefits in renewable energy and technology applications.
