“Willing To Do Public Work”: Introduction to a special issue on radical theatre and Ireland (Part 2)

This article introduces Forum Kritika on Radical Theater and Ireland (Part II), a special issue section of Kritika Kultura 15 (kritikakultura.ateneo.net/issue/no-15), edited by the author. It develops the author's introduction to Forum Kritika on Radical Theater and Ireland (Part I), a special issue section of Kritika Kultura 14 (kritikakultura.ateneo.net/issue/no-14). This article addresses theatre and performance practices in both jurisdictions on the island of Ireland, exploring variations in experiences of the radical theatrical and in institutional framings of the radical in Ireland. The essay concludes that a new vocation for radical theatre may be found in transnational dialogues among cultural workers, toward a praxis of performance and interpretation disruptive of state and corporate projects, repositioning Global Financial Crisis as Global Financial Opportunity.
